Gemmill Homes has made a commitment to help change the lives of WA’s special children and is participating for the first time in this year’s Variety Bash taking place in September.
Car 79 - Mr Men
Variety WA requests that Bash cars be designed to be attention-grabbing weird and wacky jalopies. The wilder and wackier the better and there are certainly some interesting themed cars that participate in the Bash each year! A lot of thought was given to Car 79’s “Mr Men” theme, chosen to appeal to the special children that the Bash cars visit in all parts of the state.

The Gemmill Homes crew did a lot of research into finding a suitable vehicle (participants in the Bash must have a pre-1975 vehicle) – and they finally found their car in New South Wales! The vehicle is a 1975 Ford Fairlane ZG 500 5.8lt 351 V8 Auto. The Gemmill crew are actually only the third owners of this much-loved car. It was given to the previous owner by a family friend when they passed away. The previous owner hoped that the new buyers would also enjoy it as much as they had. We’re certain they will get great pleasure in knowing that the car is being used for such a great cause and bringing much joy to the children on its travels.

The car is receiving lots of T.L.C. from “Jim” a traditional mechanic with a hands-on approach and an intimate knowledge of Fords! Jim is ensuring that Car 79 is revved and ready to go for its inaugural trip in this year’s Bash.
The funding of the car and the entry to the bash is donated by Gemmill Homes, who also donate $50 to the Charity with each house they sell.

The challenge is also put on by Variety for participants to raise above and beyond the minimum donation required to enter. Gemmill Homes has accepted this challenge with much enthusiasm – and in an effort to raise as much money as possible for Variety, voluntary members have formed the “Car 79 Fun-raising Committee.”

The committee is arranging a number of fundraising activities throughout the year. We’ve already held some very successful themed Movie Nights at the Astor Cinema, and plan to hold more in the future. However, our major event which we hope will raise lots of money and become an ongoing annual fundraising event, is The Car 79 Ball.
